Beginners Practical Guide to growing your own Food.

This will be my second year of running this course of practical learning sessions with lots of tips and tricks on how to start growing (or grow better) fruit and veg from seed.

Are you new to vegetable gardening or have you ever said? “Anything I grow always dies or gets eaten by pests!’ If YES! then this is the course for you.

Starting in February there are five monthly sessions that will give you all the information you will need to start growing your own food whether you only have a sunny windowsill, balcony, garden or have just taken on an allotment. Materials, handouts and free tea and bickies supplied.

Christine Chatfield

Having lived in East Sheen for over 30 years, Christine Chatfield, a retired teacher, rediscovered during lockdown her love of gardening and the joy and excitement it brings by growing her own fruit and vegetables.

At the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, Christine was allowed to join up her half-sized allotment plot that she’d had for ten years to the other half when the previous owner retired.  Round about the same time she treated herself to a greenhouse for her back garden not having had one since she was in her 20’s. Her enthusiasm for sowing vegetable seeds led her to having too many plants to utilise and ended up having a stall in her small front garden offering the spare seedlings to people locally.

Christine first started growing vegetables in her teens and has also been a strong advocate for healthy eating all of her adult life. All of her produce is grown organically and on no-dig principles.’
