Christine Chatfield

Having lived in East Sheen for over 30 years, Christine Chatfield, a retired Bellydance teacher, rediscovered during lockdown her love of gardening and the joy and excitement it brings by growing her own fruit and vegetables.

At the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, Christine was allowed to join up her half-sized allotment plot that she’d had for ten years to the other half when the previous owner retired.  Round about the same time she treated herself to a greenhouse for her back garden not having had one since she was in her 20’s. Her enthusiasm for sowing vegetable seeds led her to having too many plants to utilise and ended up having a stall in her small front garden offering the spare seedlings to people locally.

Christine is also a core volunteer at the Vine Road growing project in Barnes, London and helps with the harvesting of the produce they grow. This then gets taken to the local food bank on a weekly basis.

Christine also participates in giving growers’ training sessions that the project run each month. These are on many different subjects to do with growing food organically and in harmony with nature.
